Field report:
After a failed application attempt at Lufthansa, I wanted to leave no stone unturned for my next opportunity at SWISS Air and decided to train at Vimana in Regensburg.
The training took place in a modern building in Regensburg. After a friendly welcome from the Vimana team, consisting of a commercial pilot and a psychologist, the rest of the process was explained to me. I would first go through an interview, which had to be as genuine as possible. I had to imagine that I was in Zurich and that I was talking to a SWISS Air examination team. The length of the interview would depend on how I did in answering the questions. A debriefing was planned afterwards to discuss my answers to the questions in detail.
The interview
After the preliminary meeting, I had to wait briefly outside the door. The wait and the authentic interview situation made me quite nervous and created real tension. The running camera, which was supposed to provide a better evaluation of my answers, didn’t make the situation any better. When I was invited into the room, the Vimana team had already slipped into their roles as recruiters for SWISS Air.
The questions I was confronted with ranged from questions about myself, to how a digital camera works, which I unfortunately couldn’t answer, to why I had failed the Lufthansa selection process. I truthfully explained my weak point at the time, my inadequate knowledge of English. I was able to rebut the probing questions with my refresher course and a short English test in the form of a pilot’s announcement.
The debriefing
After the interview, I had to wait outside for a short time while the Vimana team talked. The tense exam situation dissipated immediately and we went through my performance in the interview in a pleasant atmosphere. In addition to my answers, my body language was also analyzed using the camera recording. The Vimana team gave me lots of tips to improve my behavior in the interview and also made me aware of the background to some questions that I would never have thought of otherwise.
My conclusion
The interview training is a great experience and great preparation for presenting yourself authentically and confidently. At no time did I have the feeling that Vimana was shaping me in one direction. On the contrary, I got to know myself even better. The input from the follow-up discussion helped me to improve some of my weaknesses and to know what I need to focus on. Many thanks to the Vimana team for the training!
What happened to me? Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the SWISS interview after all, as I couldn’t get through the medical due to a minor eye problem. However, I wish all readers every success in their recruitment tests and can only recommend Vimana for this!
