Between the basic examination (GU) and the Group Qualification (GQ) at DLR or Condor AS3, among others, applicants with a pilot’s license, i.e. “ready entry” candidates, still have to prove their flying skills in the flight simulator, in what is known as simulator screening. This selection stage is often a major challenge, especially for young pilots with little flying experience and trainee pilots who have just completed their pilot training.

How does the screening preparation work?

1. general briefing:
Before your first flight in the simulator, we will clarify your previous knowledge and skills in a 30 to 60-minute telephone appointment. You will also find out the program for the practice session and receive the necessary maps and information about the simulator, including flap schedule, approach speeds, pitch and
power values. Afterwards, you should definitely continue your preparation at home.

2. pre-briefing:
Another one-hour briefing takes place one hour before the start of the simulator session. Here, the profile to be flown and information on the aircraft type, the specific procedures of the selected airline and special features of approach and departure procedures at the relevant airports are discussed once again.

3rd flight simulator session:
This is immediately followed by the two-hour exercise on the full motion flight simulator. The screening program is flown once completely.

4. de-briefing:
At the end of the session, you will receive approximately one hour of feedback with a detailed evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses.

5. as required:
Discussion of a possible new flight simulator session.

Background

The realistic representation of the cockpit of a real airliner, the speeds, pitch and power values and the general handling of the flight simulator can be overwhelming at first. But even pilots with more flying experience should not underestimate simulator screening. For optimal preparation, we therefore recommend a thorough screening preparation with at least two sessions of two hours flying time each. The second session builds on the first and serves to specifically improve the weak points. We use the full flight simulators at Lufthansa Flight Training (LAT) in Berlin for this purpose. Depending on which airline you have applied for, we use the CRJ, B373 or Airbus model. Your trainers will be highly experienced pilots, each with thousands of hours of flight experience on the respective aircraft type and flight instructor experience, who know the respective screening programs down to the last detail. You can arrange your individual simulator screening with us at any time.

Costs

One session with two hours flying time and a total of three hours briefing time: 1280,- €
Two sessions: 2460,- € (100,- € discount)
